How to Make Your Jewelry Shine Again
A simple, gentle cleaning method works well for many gold, silver, platinum, and plain gemstone pieces:
Prepare warm water and a little mild dish soap.
Soak the jewelry for about 5–10 minutes.
Gently brush it with a very soft toothbrush, especially around settings and crevices.
Rinse thoroughly in clean water. For tiny pieces, use a bowl rather than rinsing over an open drain.
Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth and allow it to air-dry completely.
Polish gently with an appropriate jewelry-polishing cloth if needed.
Be careful with delicate jewelry
Avoid soaking or scrubbing pearls, opals, turquoise, emeralds, glued stones, or antique pieces unless you’re sure the material can tolerate it. Also avoid bleach, chlorine, toothpaste, and abrasive cleaners—they can damage metals or gemstones.
For tarnished sterling silver, a silver-polishing cloth is generally safer than aggressive homemade cleaning methods.
