Peace lily: thanks to this one ingredient, it will bloom for up to 10 years in a row.

Peace Lily: Can One Ingredient Make It Bloom for 10 Years?

The claim that one ingredient can make a peace lily bloom continuously for 10 years is clickbait. No fertilizer, kitchen ingredient, or homemade mixture can guarantee uninterrupted flowering for that long.

Peace lilies (Spathiphyllum) can live for many years when properly cared for, but their flowers naturally occur in cycles.

What actually helps a peace lily flower
Bright, indirect light: Probably the most important factor. Very low light can produce healthy-looking leaves but few flowers.
Consistent watering: Keep the growing medium appropriately moist, but don’t leave the plant sitting in water.
Good drainage: A pot with drainage holes helps prevent waterlogged roots.
Moderate feeding: A balanced houseplant fertilizer during active growth can provide nutrients. More fertilizer doesn’t mean more flowers and can damage roots.
Warm temperatures: Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Repotting when necessary: If the plant has become severely root-bound, repotting into an appropriately sized container can help.
Remove old flowers: Cutting spent flower stalks near the base keeps the plant tidy and allows it to direct energy toward new growth.
What about homemade “secret ingredients”?

You’ll often see recommendations for rice water, banana peels, coffee grounds, sugar, milk, or baking soda. These aren’t magical flowering stimulants. Some can actually cause problems such as mold, pests, unpleasant odors, or excessive salts in the growing medium.

If the viral post says “just one tablespoon of ___”, tell me what that ingredient is. I can explain whether it actually benefits a peace lily, whether it can harm the roots, and the safest way to use it.
