PUT VICKS VAPORUB ON THIS PLACE ON YOUR BODY EVERY NIGHT BEFORE SLEEPING. HERE ARE THE AMAZING EFFECTS

“Put Vicks VapoRub on this body part every night” — what’s actually true?

This is a common viral health claim, often suggesting that putting Vicks VapoRub on the feet, under the nose, or another unusual body part will produce a long list of “amazing” effects.

There isn’t good evidence that applying VapoRub to a special body location every night provides those claimed benefits.

What VapoRub is actually intended to do

VapoRub contains camphor, menthol and eucalyptus oil. According to its current labeling, it is intended to:

  • Temporarily relieve cough when applied to the chest and throat
  • Temporarily relieve minor muscle and joint aches and pains when applied to the affected area.

So claims that rubbing it on your feet, toenails, stomach, forehead, or other areas will cure infections, improve circulation, eliminate colds, remove belly fat, or provide other systemic health benefits aren’t supported by the product’s approved uses.

⚠️ Don’t put it in your nose

This is particularly important. The official directions specifically say not to use VapoRub in the nostrils, in the mouth, on wounds or damaged skin, or under tight bandages.

It should also never be swallowed. If swallowed, the label advises seeking medical help or contacting a poison-control service.

What about putting it on the feet?

There’s no established medical benefit to applying VapoRub to the soles of the feet for coughs. The feet are not an evidence-based substitute for the chest and throat application specified on the label.

If the viral post claims that putting VapoRub on the feet overnight will stop coughing, remove fungus, improve circulation, or produce several other dramatic effects, I’d treat those claims skeptically.
