Stop throwing them away. Boil eggshells and say goodbye to… Show more

If you’re referring to the viral claim “Stop throwing eggshells away. Boil eggshells and say goodbye to…”, it usually refers to using eggshell water as a calcium fertilizer for plants or, in some versions, as a remedy for human health.

🥚 If it’s for plants

Eggshells are mostly calcium carbonate, so they do contain calcium. However, simply boiling eggshells in water does not produce a powerful fertilizer. Calcium from intact shells dissolves poorly in plain water.

If you want to use eggshells in the garden, a better approach is to clean and dry them, crush them finely, and add them to compost or soil. Even then, they work slowly rather than producing an immediate effect.

⚠️ If the claim is about human health

Be cautious. Drinking homemade eggshell water is not an established treatment for osteoporosis, calcium deficiency, joint pain, high blood pressure, or other diseases. Eggshells can also carry contamination if they’re improperly handled.
