3 Baking Soda Recipes to Burn Belly Fat

The headline “3 Baking Soda Recipes to Burn Belly Fat” is misleading. There is no good evidence that drinking baking soda burns belly fat or produces meaningful weight loss. Studies of sodium bicarbonate have not shown a significant reduction in body weight. (PubMed Central (PMC))

🥄 Why you shouldn’t use baking soda as a fat-burning remedy

Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, and swallowing it in significant amounts can cause:

  • Nausea, vomiting and stomach discomfort
  • Bloating
  • Increased sodium intake and fluid retention
  • Dangerous disturbances in the body’s acid-base and electrolyte balance when taken excessively (ODs)

Severe baking-soda poisoning has even been reported after very large amounts were consumed. (PubMed)

What actually helps reduce belly fat?

You don’t need a special drink. Sustainable fat loss generally comes from:

  • Eating an appropriate amount of calories
  • Getting adequate protein and fiber
  • Replacing sugary drinks with water or unsweetened beverages
  • Regular walking or other aerobic activity
  • Resistance/strength training to preserve muscle
  • Getting adequate sleep

And importantly, you can’t selectively burn fat from your abdomen with a particular food or drink.

Bottom line: I would skip all three “baking soda recipes.” Baking soda has legitimate medical and culinary uses, but burning belly fat isn’t one of them. (Mayo Clinic)
