One vitamin that may help blood circulation
You may have seen claims that one vitamin can “open blood vessels” and improve circulation. The important point is that no vitamin reliably opens narrowed blood vessels on its own. However, certain vitamins support healthy blood vessels and normal circulation, particularly when you have a deficiency.
Which vitamins are relevant?
Helps protect cells from oxidative damage and plays a role in blood-vessel function. However, vitamin E supplements have not been shown to reliably prevent heart attacks or improve circulation in otherwise healthy people.
Essential for healthy nerves and red blood cells. Correcting a B12 deficiency may improve related anemia and neurological symptoms, but B12 is not a treatment for narrowed arteries.
What actually helps circulation?
-
Walk regularly, building up to 150 minutes of moderate activity per week if safe for you.
-
Avoid smoking and tobacco.
-
Manage blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes.
-
Eat a balanced diet with vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, and whole grains.
Don’t take high-dose vitamin E to improve circulation without medical advice, particularly if you use blood-thinning medication, because it can increase bleeding risk.
Tell me what circulation problem you’re concerned about: cold hands or feet, leg pain while walking, numbness or tingling, varicose veins, or concern about heart health? The most appropriate advice depends on the symptom. Sudden coldness or pain in one limb, especially with pale or blue skin, needs emergency assessment.
