If you’re referring to a viral claim that a “natural recipe” can permanently remove facial hair, be skeptical. There is no proven kitchen ingredient or homemade mixture that permanently destroys facial-hair follicles.
What natural recipes can—and can’t—do
Things commonly promoted online, such as turmeric, lemon juice, baking soda, honey, or sugar, may temporarily exfoliate the skin or remove hair from the surface when used as part of a hair-removal method. They do not reliably prevent the hair follicle from producing new hair.
Be particularly careful with lemon juice or baking soda on the face. They can irritate the skin, cause burns, or increase sensitivity to sunlight.
Options that can provide longer-lasting results
-
Laser hair removal: Can produce substantial, long-term reduction in hair growth, although multiple treatments are usually needed and results vary by hair and skin type.
-
Electrolysis: Uses an electrical current to destroy individual hair follicles and is the established option for permanent hair removal.
-
Waxing/threading/epilating: Removes hair temporarily from the root.
-
Shaving or facial depilatory products: Remove hair temporarily from the skin surface; use products specifically designed for facial skin.
If facial hair has suddenly become much thicker or more abundant, particularly alongside irregular periods, acne, or other hormonal changes, it’s worth discussing with a healthcare professional because hormonal conditions can sometimes cause increased facial hair.
