Cheese Pizza with Unpeeled Sausage

Cheese Pizza with Unpeeled Sausage

Ingredients

  • 1 pizza dough, homemade or store-bought

  • ½ cup pizza sauce

  • 1½–2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 200–250 g sausage with its casing left on, sliced into thin rounds

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • ½ tsp dried oregano

  • ½ tsp chili flakes, optional

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 230°C (450°F). Place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside while it heats.

  2. Prepare the sausage: Keep the sausage casing intact and slice it into thin pieces. If the sausage is raw, make sure it is fully cooked before eating; for thick raw sausage, you can cook it in a skillet first until the center reaches 71°C/160°F for pork or beef sausage.

  3. Shape the dough on a lightly floured surface into a 30-cm (12-inch) circle.

  4. Add toppings: Spread the pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a small border. Sprinkle on the mozzarella, then arrange the sausage slices on top.

  5. Drizzle lightly with olive oil and add oregano, black pepper, and chili flakes if desired.

  6. Bake for about 10–15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling. If you pre-cooked the sausage, it only needs to heat and brown on the pizza.

  7. Let it cool for 2–3 minutes, slice, and serve.

Safety note: If by “unpeeled sausage” you mean sausage still in its natural casing, that’s fine—the casing is generally intended to be eaten. If you’re unsure whether a particular casing is edible, remove it before cooking.
