Very Dirty Mop? Don’t Buy a New One Yet!
If your mop has become gray, greasy, or smelly, you may be able to bring it back to life with a thorough wash.
The Simple Trick
You’ll need:
- Warm water
- A small amount of liquid laundry detergent
- A bucket
- A scrub brush
How to Do It
1. Rinse first.
Rinse the mop under running water to remove loose dirt and debris.
2. Make a cleaning solution.
Fill a bucket with warm water and add a small amount of laundry detergent.
3. Let it soak.
Place the mop head in the solution for about 15–30 minutes.
4. Scrub stubborn grime.
Use a small brush to work on areas that are still dirty.
5. Rinse thoroughly.
Keep rinsing until the water runs clear and no detergent remains.
6. Dry completely.
Squeeze out excess water and leave the mop somewhere well-ventilated until it is completely dry.
One Important Warning
Don’t mix bleach with vinegar, ammonia, or other cleaning products. Dangerous fumes can result.
If your mop head is damaged, permanently stained, or has developed an unpleasant odor that won’t go away after cleaning, replacing it may be the better option.
