If you’re referring to a
hidden sign of fatty liver, there
isn’t one symptom that everyone with fatty liver
has in common. In fact, fatty liver often causes no noticeable symptoms at all, especially in its early stages.
A commonly overlooked clue is persistent fatigue, but fatigue is nonspecific and can have many other causes.
Other possible signs include:
- A feeling of discomfort or fullness in the upper-right abdomen
- Unexplained tiredness
- Elevated liver enzymes on blood tests
- In more advanced liver disease: jaundice, abdominal swelling, easy bruising, or leg swelling
Important: You cannot reliably diagnose fatty liver from a symptom alone. Ultrasound or other imaging, blood tests, and sometimes additional liver assessment are used to evaluate it.
