7 signs that indicate your heart is in serious danger

7 Signs That May Indicate a Serious Heart Problem

Some heart conditions can develop with few or no symptoms, but certain warning signs deserve prompt attention.

  1. Chest pressure, squeezing, or pain — especially if it occurs with activity or doesn’t go away with rest.

  2. Pain or discomfort spreading — discomfort may travel to the arm, shoulder, back, neck, jaw, or upper abdomen.

  3. Shortness of breath — particularly when it is new, severe, or occurs with chest discomfort.

  4. Unexplained cold sweating — especially when accompanied by chest pressure, nausea, or weakness.

  5. Nausea or vomiting with chest discomfort — heart attacks can sometimes resemble indigestion or stomach problems.

  6. Unusual or sudden extreme fatigue — particularly when it is new or occurs alongside other symptoms.

  7. Fainting, severe dizziness, or a racing/irregular heartbeat — these can sometimes indicate an abnormal heart rhythm or another cardiovascular problem.

🚨 Don’t wait with possible heart-attack symptoms

If you have persistent or severe chest pressure/pain, difficulty breathing, fainting, or symptoms spreading to your arm, jaw, back, or shoulder, seek emergency medical care immediately. Don’t attempt to diagnose the cause yourself.

Also, symptoms can differ between people, and some people—particularly older adults and people with diabetes—may have less typical symptoms. Regular blood-pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes screening can help identify cardiovascular risk before symptoms appear.
