7 Foods That Kill Worms in the Intestine

7 Foods That “Kill Intestinal Worms” — What You Should Know

The claim that certain foods can kill intestinal worms is common online, but it is misleading. Foods may support general health, but there is no reliable evidence that eating a particular food can eradicate a human intestinal-worm infection.

Foods often promoted as “natural dewormers” include:

  1. Garlic — nutritious, but eating garlic hasn’t been established as a treatment for intestinal worms.

  2. Pumpkin seeds — contain protein, fiber, and minerals, but aren’t a proven cure.

  3. Papaya — nutritious and fiber-rich, but shouldn’t replace antiparasitic treatment.

  4. Pineapple — healthy fruit, but doesn’t reliably eliminate intestinal parasites.

  5. Carrots — provide fiber and nutrients but don’t kill intestinal worms.

  6. Coconut — nutritious, but there’s no established deworming effect from eating it.

  7. Turmeric — has been studied for various biological effects, but isn’t a proven treatment for worm infections.

What actually gets rid of worms?

Treatment depends on the specific parasite. Different infections can require medicines such as albendazole, mebendazole, ivermectin, or pyrantel, and the appropriate drug and dose vary by parasite, age, pregnancy status, and other factors.

If you suspect a worm infection, particularly with persistent abdominal symptoms, unexplained weight loss, anemia, ongoing diarrhea, or nighttime anal itching, get medical advice rather than relying on a “parasite cleanse.”

Bottom line: These foods can be part of a healthy diet, but they shouldn’t be presented as foods that kill worms. A confirmed infection needs the appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
