The Body Will Give You These 10 Signs If Your Kidney Is In Danger

If you’re looking for the 10 signs that may indicate kidney problems, common warning signs include:

  1. Swelling in the feet, ankles, legs, hands, or around the eyes

  2. Changes in urination — much more or less urine, frequent urination, or nighttime urination

  3. Foamy or unusually bubbly urine, which can sometimes indicate protein in the urine

  4. Blood in the urine (pink, red, or cola-colored urine)

  5. Persistent fatigue or weakness

  6. Nausea or vomiting, especially with advanced kidney dysfunction

  7. Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss

  8. Itchy or unusually dry skin

  9. Muscle cramps, particularly in the legs

  10. Shortness of breath, which can occur when fluid builds up or anemia develops

Important: Chronic kidney disease often causes few or no symptoms in its early stages. These signs aren’t specific to kidney disease, so testing—typically blood creatinine/eGFR and a urine albumin test—is needed to determine whether the kidneys are actually affected.

Seek urgent medical care for blood in the urine with severe pain, very little/no urine, severe shortness of breath, confusion, or rapidly worsening swelling.
