Put raw cabbage wedges in a slow cooker with these 3 ingredients. It’ll wow you.

Slow-Cooker Cabbage That’s Surprisingly Delicious

That viral headline refers to a few different recipes, but one popular version uses cabbage + smoked sausage + diced tomatoes + chicken broth. The cabbage slowly becomes tender while absorbing the smoky, savory flavors.

🍲 4-ingredient version

  • 1 small head green cabbage, cut into 6–8 wedges
  • 1 lb (450 g) smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz/410 g) diced tomatoes
  • 4 cups chicken broth

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Put the cabbage wedges into the slow cooker.
  2. Scatter the sliced sausage over the cabbage.
  3. Pour the diced tomatoes over everything.
  4. Add the chicken broth.
  5. Cover and cook 6–8 hours on LOW or 3–4 hours on HIGH, until the cabbage is very tender.
  6. Gently stir before serving.

Tip: Keep the cabbage wedges relatively large and leave some core attached so they don’t completely fall apart during cooking.

🥓 Another 3-ingredient variation

For something even simpler, there’s also a version using cabbage, bacon and water. The bacon renders its fat as it cooks, flavoring the cabbage.
