If you’re seeing “Mix Vaseline and Coffee: Why Didn’t I Know This Sooner,” it’s most likely referring to a DIY beauty hack.
What does it actually do?
A mixture of Vaseline (petroleum jelly) and coffee grounds can make skin feel temporarily smoother:
- Coffee grounds provide physical exfoliation by removing some surface flakes.
- Vaseline forms an occlusive layer that helps reduce water loss, leaving skin feeling softer.
But the viral claims often go much further than the evidence. This mixture hasn’t been shown to permanently remove wrinkles, cellulite, scars, stretch marks, or dark circles.
If you want to try it
Use only a small amount, massage very gently, and rinse afterward. I’d avoid using coffee grounds on the face because the particles can be irritating, especially for sensitive or acne-prone skin. Plain petroleum jelly is generally a much gentler moisturizer/skin protectant.
And don’t add coffee to Vaseline if the goal is to treat a skin condition—you’ll generally get more predictable results from an ingredient specifically formulated for that condition.
