Mix toothpaste and Vaseline, I didn’t expect it to be so effective

If you’re referring to the viral toothpaste + Vaseline hack, be careful: they’re not a proven combination for treating wrinkles, dark spots, acne, or other skin problems.

  • Vaseline (petrolatum) is an effective occlusive moisturizer that helps reduce water loss and protect the skin barrier.
  • Toothpaste is formulated for teeth, not skin. It can contain detergents, abrasives, flavoring agents, and other ingredients that may cause irritation, dryness, or contact dermatitis.
  • Mixing the two doesn’t make toothpaste safer or more effective for skin.

If the goal is dry or rough skin, plain Vaseline on slightly damp skin is the safer choice. For acne or pigmentation, use products specifically formulated and tested for those concerns.

Bottom line: Skip the toothpaste. The “extra effectiveness” of the viral mixture isn’t supported by good evidence and may come with unnecessary skin irritation.
