“Mix This With Vaseline to Look Younger” — What’s the Truth?
There isn’t a secret ingredient you can mix with Vaseline that will reverse skin aging or erase wrinkles. Petroleum jelly (Vaseline) is an excellent occlusive moisturizer: it helps trap water in the skin, which can temporarily make dry skin and fine lines look smoother.
What actually makes sense?
If your goal is younger-looking skin, a simple routine has much better evidence:
- Petroleum jelly: Apply a thin layer to dry areas, preferably over slightly damp skin. It helps prevent moisture loss.
- Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every day: Sun exposure accelerates wrinkles and age spots, so sun protection is one of the most important anti-aging steps.
- Retinoid/retinol: These vitamin-A derivatives can improve fine lines, wrinkles and uneven pigmentation over time.
- Moisturizer: Regular moisturizing temporarily plumps the skin and makes fine lines less noticeable.
⚠️ Don’t mix Vaseline with household ingredients
Avoid viral recipes involving lemon juice, baking soda, toothpaste, bleach or other irritating substances. Skin irritation can make discoloration and signs of aging more noticeable.
If you’re using a medicated or active skincare product, it’s generally better to apply the treatment as directed and use moisturizer afterward, rather than randomly mixing products together.
