9 Foot Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore

Foot changes are common and often harmless, but some can signal circulation problems, nerve damage, infection, or other medical conditions. A foot symptom by itself usually cannot diagnose a disease.

  1. Persistent numbness or tingling — can occur with nerve problems, including peripheral neuropathy.

  2. Burning or unusual sensitivity — may also indicate nerve irritation or neuropathy.

  3. Persistent swelling — can have many causes, including injury, vein problems, heart or kidney conditions, or medication effects.

  4. Cold feet with color changes — especially pale, blue, or unusually dark skin, can warrant evaluation for circulation problems.

  5. Slow-healing cuts or sores — particularly important in people with diabetes.

  6. Unexplained severe foot pain — especially when it persists or occurs without an obvious injury.

  7. Changes in skin color or texture — sudden or significant changes should be assessed.

  8. A new lump, deformity, or rapidly changing shape — may require examination by a healthcare professional.

  9. Persistent cracks, itching, scaling, or nail changes — can be caused by fungal infections or other skin conditions.
