If this is a viral health post, the “10 seconds” claim is misleading. There is no breathing technique, coughing trick, drink, or body movement that can reliably stop a heart attack.
If you suspect you’re having a heart attack:
- Call emergency medical services immediately. Don’t wait to see if the symptoms disappear.
- Stop activity and sit or rest in a comfortable position.
- If you have prescribed nitroglycerin, take it according to your doctor’s instructions.
- Ask the emergency dispatcher about aspirin. It can benefit some people with suspected heart attack, but isn’t appropriate for everyone.
- If the person becomes unconscious and isn’t breathing normally, start CPR and use an AED if one is available.
Heart-attack symptoms can include chest pressure or pain, shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, or pain spreading to the arm, back, neck, or jaw.
The most important “10-second action” is recognizing a possible emergency and getting professional help—not trying a viral home remedy.
