How to get rid of inner ear crystals and reduce vertigo

The “inner ear crystals” are otoconia—tiny calcium-carbonate particles involved in balance. When they move into the wrong part of the inner ear, they can cause benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). What actually gets rid of them?

The main treatment isn’t a medicine or supplement. It’s a canalith-repositioning maneuver, most commonly the Epley maneuver, which uses a sequence of head and body movements to move the crystals back to where they belong. It often works after one or two treatments. (Cleveland Clinic)

Don’t blindly perform an Epley maneuver, though. The correct direction depends on which ear and which canal are affected, and doing it incorrectly can worsen symptoms. 🚨 When vertigo may NOT be “ear crystals”

Get urgent medical attention for vertigo accompanied by new weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking, significant vision changes, severe trouble walking, or a severe/unusual headache. Those can indicate a neurological emergency rather than BPPV. (Cleveland Clinic)

Bottom line: If your vertigo is brief and reliably triggered by head-position changes, BPPV is one possibility, and the Epley maneuver can be highly effective. But persistent or unexplained vertigo should be evaluated rather than assumed to be “loose crystals.”
