From the age of 60, remember to wash these 5 overlooked areas of your body to stay fresh, healthy, and energized

5 Often-Overlooked Areas to Wash After 60

There’s no special rule that people over 60 need to wash five particular body parts. However, skin can become drier and more fragile with age, while reduced mobility can make certain areas harder to clean. Good hygiene should be gentle and consistent rather than excessive.

1. Feet and between the toes 🦶

Wash regularly and dry carefully between the toes. Persistent moisture can encourage fungal infections. Check your feet for cracks, blisters, redness, or sores, especially if you have diabetes or circulation problems.

2. Skin folds

Clean areas such as the groin, underarms, abdominal folds, and under the breasts where applicable. Dry them thoroughly afterward to reduce moisture-related irritation.

3. Behind the ears

This area can accumulate oil, sweat, and skin debris. Gently wash it with water and a mild cleanser.

4. The navel

The belly button can collect sweat, skin cells, and debris. Gently clean it during bathing and dry it afterward. There’s no need to scrub aggressively.

5. Around the genitals and buttocks

Gentle daily cleansing helps remove sweat and bodily fluids. Use mild, unscented products and avoid putting soap inside the vagina or anus. For uncircumcised men, gently retract the foreskin if it moves comfortably, clean underneath, and return it to its normal position.

A few important tips
Warm—not hot—water is generally kinder to aging skin.
You don’t need to scrub your entire body vigorously every day.
Moisturize dry skin after bathing.
Avoid heavily fragranced products if your skin is sensitive.
If you have difficulty reaching certain areas, a long-handled sponge or shower chair can make bathing safer.

Bottom line: Good hygiene after 60 is about gentle cleaning, thorough drying, and protecting the skin barrier—not washing excessively. Persistent odor, itching, rash, sores, or unusual discharge should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
