Clear your throat and lungs of mucus with this recipe – just 2 ingredients

Clear Your Throat of Mucus With This Simple 2-Ingredient Drink

A buildup of mucus can be uncomfortable, especially during a cold, allergies, or postnasal drip. While no simple drink can literally clear mucus from your lungs, warm fluids may soothe the throat and help make thick mucus easier to manage.

The 2 Ingredients

🍯 1–2 teaspoons of honey
💧 1 cup of warm water

Mix the honey into the warm water and sip slowly.

Honey can soothe an irritated throat and may help reduce coughing. Staying adequately hydrated can also help keep mucus from becoming overly thick.

A Few Things That May Help Even More

  • Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.
  • Avoid cigarette smoke and other airway irritants.
  • If nasal congestion or postnasal drip is contributing to the mucus, treating the underlying problem may help.
  • A humidifier may provide comfort when indoor air is very dry; keep it clean to prevent mold and microbial growth.

Important Safety Note

Never give honey to a child under 1 year old.

If mucus or coughing persists for several weeks, keeps returning, or is accompanied by wheezing, fever, chest pain, difficulty breathing, unexplained weight loss, or blood in the phlegm, seek medical advice.

Bottom line: Warm honey water can soothe your throat, but persistent mucus isn’t something to simply mask. Finding the underlying cause—such as allergies, postnasal drip, reflux, asthma, infection, or smoking—is the key to treating it effectively.
