Want Stronger Legs Even After 80? Eat This Every Day

There isn’t one magic food that will make your legs strong after 80. But getting enough protein regularly is an important part of preserving muscle as you age. Older adults are encouraged to include nutrient-dense protein foods such as eggs, fish, yogurt, milk, beans, lentils, soy, nuts, and lean meats.

🥚 A simple daily choice: eggs

Eggs are a convenient source of high-quality protein and can be part of a muscle-supporting diet. But you don’t have to eat eggs every day—other protein sources work too.

🥛 Other excellent choices

  • Greek yogurt or cottage cheese
  • Fish such as salmon or tuna
  • Chicken or other lean meats
  • Beans and lentils
  • Tofu and fortified soy foods
  • Nuts and seeds

The goal is variety and adequate protein throughout the day, rather than relying on one “superfood.”

🏋️ Food alone isn’t enough

If your goal is stronger legs, muscle-strengthening exercise is just as important as nutrition. The National Institute on Aging recommends older adults include muscle-strengthening activities at least two days per week, along with aerobic and balance activities.

Simple exercises such as sit-to-stands, supported squats, resistance-band exercises, and calf raises can help, provided they’re appropriate for your fitness level.

⚠️ One important exception
