5 Heart Attack Symptoms Women Should Know

Women can experience the same classic heart-attack symptoms as men, but they may also have less obvious symptoms. The American Heart Association highlights these five important warning signs:

Chest pressure or discomfort — squeezing, fullness, heaviness, or pain in the center of the chest.
Shortness of breath — it can occur with or without chest discomfort.
Pain in the upper body — discomfort may occur in the arm, shoulder, back, neck, jaw, or upper abdomen.
Nausea, vomiting, or indigestion — these can sometimes be mistaken for a stomach problem.
Unusual fatigue, dizziness, or cold sweating — particularly when these symptoms are sudden or occur together.

Women may also experience anxiety, unusual weakness, or upper-back pressure, and symptoms don’t necessarily include severe chest pain.

🚨 Don’t wait

If a woman is experiencing possible heart-attack symptoms right now, call your local emergency medical service immediately. Don’t wait to see whether the symptoms disappear and don’t try to diagnose it at home. Fast treatment can limit heart damage.
