My neighbor gave me a bag of these. Anyone know what they are? How are you supposed to eat them?

If you’re trying to identify the mystery produce, a photo is essential—the description alone isn’t enough to safely determine what it is.

If you upload a clear photo showing the whole item, its skin/texture, and preferably a cut-open view, I can help narrow down what it is and explain how it’s normally prepared.

One important caution: don’t eat an unidentified wild plant or unusual squash solely based on an online identification. Some look-alikes can be unsafe, and even extension experts recommend caution when identification is uncertain.

If it turns out to be an ordinary summer squash such as zucchini, it can generally be eaten with the tender skin and prepared by sautéing, roasting, grilling, steaming, or adding it to soups.
