old-fashioned oven baked 3-ingredient chicken

  1. Old-Fashioned Oven-Baked 3-Ingredient ChickenA simple, comforting chicken dinner with the kind of no-fuss flavor people remember from old-fashioned home cooking.

    Ingredients

    • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs or breasts
    • 1 packet onion soup mix
    • 1 can cream of chicken soup

    Directions

    1. Heat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    2. Place the chicken pieces skin-side up in a lightly greased baking dish.
    3. Spread the cream of chicken soup over the chicken.
    4. Sprinkle the onion soup mix evenly over everything.
    5. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
    6. Remove the foil and continue baking for 20–30 minutes, until the chicken is browned and cooked through.
    7. Chicken should reach 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part.

The creamy onion sauce makes wonderful gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

Old-fashioned tip: For extra browning, put the uncovered chicken under the broiler for 2–3 minutes at the end, watching it closely.
