That claim is mostly a myth. There isn’t a mixture that safely “flushes out years of stuck poop” or removes gum that you swallowed in childhood.
🧻 What actually happens
- Your intestines don’t normally store feces for years. Stool moves through the digestive tract and is eventually eliminated.
- Swallowed chewing gum does not stay in your stomach for seven years. Your body can’t digest the gum itself, but it generally passes through the digestive system and leaves in your stool.
- Long-term constipation can cause fecal impaction—a large mass of hard stool becoming stuck, usually in the rectum. That’s a genuine medical condition, but it’s different from having years of accumulated waste throughout your body.
If you’re constipated
For ordinary constipation, measures such as adequate fluids, gradually increasing dietary fiber, physical activity, and responding when you feel the urge to use the toilet can help.
If constipation doesn’t improve, a pharmacist or clinician can recommend an appropriate laxative. Macrogol (PEG), for example, works by drawing water into the bowel to soften stool and is also used medically for fecal impaction.
Don’t attempt an aggressive “detox” mixture or repeated enemas on your own, especially if you might have an obstruction or impaction.
