Oregano is 30 times stronger than lemon and 30 times stronger than garlic. It kills bacteria and fungi. I’ll give you the recipe in exchange for a simple OK.

This claim is partly based on real laboratory research but is heavily exaggerated.

  • Oregano contains compounds such as carvacrol and thymol that have demonstrated antibacterial and antifungal activity in laboratory studies. (PubMed)
  • However, there is no good evidence that oregano is “30 times stronger than lemon and 30 times stronger than garlic.” The comparison isn’t scientifically meaningful without specifying the compound, concentration, organism, and testing method. A fact-check traced this exact viral wording and found no evidence supporting the claim. (Lead Stories)
  • Laboratory antimicrobial activity doesn’t mean that eating oregano or drinking oregano tea will kill infections inside the human body. Human clinical evidence is still limited. (PubMed)
  • Oregano essential oil is much more concentrated than culinary oregano and shouldn’t be swallowed casually; concentrated products can cause gastrointestinal side effects and other adverse effects. (NCBI)

So I wouldn’t treat the “30 times stronger” statement as a medical fact or use oregano as a substitute for antibiotics or antifungal treatment.

If you have the recipe the post promises, send it to me and I can check whether the ingredients and amounts are safe.
