Southern Cheesy Ranch Squares,

Southern Cheesy Ranch Squares are a wildly popular, crowd-pleasing comfort food staple. Often made using convenient shortcuts like refrigerated biscuit dough or crescent rolls combined with plenty of cheddar cheese, butter, and a punchy packet of dry ranch seasoning, they bake up into golden, savory, pull-apart squares that disappear fast at potlucks and family dinners.

Ingredients Needed

  • 1 to 2 cans (approx. 16 oz each) refrigerated biscuits (such as Grands! buttermilk biscuits) or crescent roll dough
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (or a blend of cheddar and Monterey Jack)
  • 1 packet (1 oz) dry ranch seasoning mix (like Hidden Valley Ranch)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • Optional Add-ins: Crispy crumbled bacon, chopped green onions, or a pinch of garlic powder for extra flavor.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray or a bit of butter.
  2. Cut the Dough: Cut each refrigerated biscuit into quarters (or bite-sized pieces).
  3. Coat with Butter and Seasoning: Place the dough pieces into a large mixing bowl. Pour the melted butter and the dry ranch seasoning packet over the dough. Toss gently until all the pieces are evenly coated.
  4. Layer with Cheese: Spread half of the coated dough pieces into the bottom of your prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese evenly over the top. Layer the remaining dough pieces, then top with the rest of the cheese.
  5. Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through in the center, golden brown on top, and the cheese is completely melted and bubbly.
  6. Cool and Serve: Let the dish rest for about 5 minutes so it can set up, then cut into neat squares and serve warm!
