Baking soda removes grease from all these areas—the only way to do it is to prepare it this way!

To unlock baking soda’s full grease-cutting power across tough surfaces—like stovetops, oven interiors, range hoods, kitchen cabinets, and pots and pans—the secret lies in preparing it as a thick cleaning paste.

The Master Grease-Cutting Paste Recipe

Instead of just sprinkling dry powder or diluting it too much in water, mixing it right creates a mild abrasive with an alkaline boost that breaks down stubborn oil molecules.
  • The Formula: Mix 3 parts baking soda to 1 part warm water (for example, 3/4 cup baking soda to 1/4 cup water) in a small bowl.
  • The Power Upgrade: For extra-greasy kitchen surfaces, swap out plain water for liquid dish soap or a splash of white vinegar (note: vinegar will fizz initially, so stir until it forms a thick, spreadable, frosting-like consistency).

How to Apply It for Maximum Effect:

  1. Coat the Area: Spread a generous layer of the paste directly onto the greasy surface (glass oven doors, greasy stovetop burners, range hood filters, or sticky cabinet doors).
  2. Let It Dwell: Do not scrub immediately. Let the paste sit for 15 to 30 minutes (or overnight for baked-on, carbonized oven grease). This gives the baking soda time to lift and saponify the oils.
  3. Wipe and Rinse: Use a damp, non-scratch sponge or microfiber cloth to wipe away the paste and loosened grime, then rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water.
