If you have a heart attack at home, do this in 10 seconds and you can save your life.(1 / 2)

If this is a viral health post, the “10 seconds” claim is misleading. There is no breathing technique, coughing trick, drink, or body movement that can reliably stop a heart attack.

If you suspect you’re having a heart attack:

  1. Call emergency medical services immediately. Don’t wait to see if the symptoms disappear.
  2. Stop activity and sit or rest in a comfortable position.
  3. If you have prescribed nitroglycerin, take it according to your doctor’s instructions.
  4. Ask the emergency dispatcher about aspirin. It can benefit some people with suspected heart attack, but isn’t appropriate for everyone.
  5. If the person becomes unconscious and isn’t breathing normally, start CPR and use an AED if one is available.

Heart-attack symptoms can include chest pressure or pain, shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, or pain spreading to the arm, back, neck, or jaw.

The most important “10-second action” is recognizing a possible emergency and getting professional help—not trying a viral home remedy.
