That claim is misleading and potentially unsafe. A healthy colon does not normally accumulate 15 kilograms (33 pounds) of “waste” that can be safely removed overnight.
If the goal is to relieve constipation, safer evidence-based measures include:
- Drink enough fluids.
- Increase fiber gradually through fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, and lentils.
- Stay physically active.
- If constipation continues, speak with a pharmacist or clinician about an appropriate treatment.
Avoid extreme “colon cleanses,” detox drinks, or large doses of laxatives. They can cause dehydration, electrolyte disturbances, and abdominal problems.
A more responsible headline would be: “Constipation Relief: Safe Ways to Support Regular Bowel Movements—Without Dangerous Colon Cleanses.”
