Signs That Your Heart May Need Attention ❤️
Heart problems don’t always begin with dramatic chest pain. Some symptoms can be subtle, especially in older adults and people with diabetes.
Watch for:
-
Chest pressure, squeezing, heaviness, or discomfort — particularly during exertion.
-
Shortness of breath — with activity or sometimes even at rest.
-
Unusual fatigue — especially a sudden or unexplained reduction in your ability to do normal activities.
-
Pain or discomfort spreading to the arm, shoulder, back, neck, jaw, or upper abdomen.
-
Persistent or worsening swelling in the feet, ankles, or legs.
-
Rapid, pounding, or irregular heartbeat accompanied by dizziness or weakness.
-
Dizziness or fainting, particularly during physical activity.
-
Waking up short of breath or needing several pillows to sleep comfortably.
-
Persistent cough or wheezing, especially when accompanied by breathlessness or swelling.
-
Sudden changes in exercise tolerance—for example, becoming unusually breathless doing something that previously felt easy.
🚨 Don’t wait with emergency symptoms
If you develop new or severe chest pressure/pain, severe difficulty breathing, fainting, or sudden cold sweating/nausea along with chest discomfort, seek emergency medical help immediately.
Women and people with diabetes can sometimes have less typical heart-attack symptoms, so unexplained breathlessness, nausea, unusual fatigue, or upper-body discomfort shouldn’t automatically be dismissed.
These symptoms don’t necessarily mean your heart is diseased—many have other causes—but new, persistent, or worsening symptoms deserve medical evaluation.
