You Won’t Believe What 2 Minutes Can Do to Your Puffy Eyes… 👀

Waking up with puffy eyes is common and is often caused by fluid retention, lack of sleep, allergies, crying, salty meals, or simply lying down for several hours. While no two-minute trick can permanently eliminate under-eye bags, a few minutes of gentle care can temporarily reduce the appearance of puffiness.

Try this 2-minute routine

1. Use something cool — about 60 seconds
Place a clean, cool, damp washcloth over your closed eyes. Don’t apply ice directly to your skin. The cool temperature can temporarily constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling.

2. Stay upright — about 30 seconds
If you’ve just woken up, sit or stand rather than remaining flat in bed. Keeping your head elevated can help fluid move away from the area around your eyes.

3. Gentle massage — about 30 seconds
With clean hands, lightly tap or sweep around the orbital bone beneath the eyes. Don’t press directly on the eyeballs or rub vigorously, particularly if your eyes are irritated.

For longer-term improvement

If puffiness happens frequently, consider whether you’re getting enough sleep, consuming very salty meals, or dealing with allergies. Treating an underlying allergy can be particularly helpful when itching, sneezing, and watery eyes occur alongside the swelling.

Persistent swelling, especially if it affects only one eye, is painful, causes vision changes, becomes red, or is accompanied by significant facial swelling should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

The reality: a cool compress can make puffy eyes look better temporarily, but there’s no two-minute remedy that permanently removes under-eye bags caused by genetics, aging, or changes in skin and tissue.
