A Natural, Effective Way to Relieve Constipation
For occasional constipation, increasing dietary fiber and drinking adequate fluids is one of the safest natural approaches.
Try this simple routine
-
Eat more fiber: Add foods such as oats, lentils, beans, vegetables, fruits, and whole grains gradually. Prunes or prune juice can also help some people because prunes contain fiber and sorbitol.
-
Drink enough fluids: Drink regularly according to thirst, unless a doctor has prescribed a fluid restriction.
-
Move your body: A daily walk or other regular physical activity can stimulate bowel function.
-
Don’t ignore the urge: Give yourself enough time to use the toilet, ideally at a regular time each day.
-
Increase fiber gradually: Suddenly eating a large amount can cause gas and bloating.
When to get medical help
Seek medical attention for constipation accompanied by severe or persistent abdominal pain, vomiting, a swollen abdomen, blood in the stool, fever, or inability to pass gas. New or persistent constipation—especially with unexplained weight loss or a significant change in bowel habits—also deserves medical evaluation.
Avoid relying on harsh “detox” drinks or large amounts of herbal laxatives. Natural doesn’t automatically mean safe, and some can cause dehydration or electrolyte problems.
