This natural and effective remedy for relieving constipation

🌿 A Natural Way to Relieve Constipation

For occasional constipation, one of the simplest evidence-based approaches is to gradually increase dietary fiber and fluids.

Try this simple option

Prunes (dried plums) can be particularly helpful because they contain fiber and sorbitol, a natural sugar alcohol that draws water into the bowel.

  • Start with 4–6 prunes daily.
  • Drink a glass of water alongside them.
  • Increase gradually if needed, since too much can cause gas or diarrhea.

Other helpful habits include:

  • 🥣 Eating more oats, whole grains, beans, lentils, fruits, and vegetables
  • đź’§ Drinking adequate fluids throughout the day
  • 🚶 Taking a daily walk or staying physically active
  • đźš˝ Going to the bathroom when you feel the urge rather than repeatedly delaying it

⚠️ When constipation needs medical attention

Seek medical care if constipation is new and persistent, or occurs with blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, persistent abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, or inability to pass gas.

If you’re taking medications such as opioid painkillers, iron supplements, or some antacids, they may be contributing to constipation, so ask your doctor or pharmacist about possible alternatives.

For frequent constipation, don’t rely indefinitely on home remedies—it’s worth identifying the underlying cause.
