7 Foods That Kill Worms in the Intestine

7 Foods That May Support Intestinal Health—but Don’t Reliably “Kill Worms”

You may see claims online that certain foods can eliminate intestinal worms. While some foods contain compounds studied for antiparasitic activity in laboratory or animal research, there isn’t good evidence that eating particular foods can reliably cure a human intestinal-worm infection.

If you’re concerned about intestinal worms, proper diagnosis and an appropriate antiparasitic medicine are much more reliable than trying to treat the infection with food.

1. Garlic 🧄

Garlic contains allicin and other sulfur compounds that have demonstrated antimicrobial and antiparasitic effects in laboratory studies. Adding garlic to meals can be part of a healthy diet, but it shouldn’t be considered a substitute for deworming treatment.

2. Pumpkin seeds 🎃

Pumpkin seeds contain compounds such as cucurbitacins, which have attracted research interest for potential antiparasitic effects. They’re nutritious and provide protein, healthy fats, magnesium, and zinc, but eating them has not been established as a dependable treatment for intestinal worms.

3. Carrots 🥕

Carrots provide fiber and carotenoids and can contribute to a healthy digestive system. However, claims that carrots directly kill intestinal worms aren’t well supported by clinical evidence.

4. Papaya 🥭

Papaya seeds are sometimes promoted as a natural dewormer. A few small studies have investigated papaya-seed preparations, but the evidence isn’t strong enough to recommend them as a proven treatment.

5. Pineapple 🍍

Pineapple contains bromelain, a group of enzymes with various biological effects. Although laboratory research has explored potential antiparasitic properties, eating pineapple should not be relied upon to eliminate intestinal parasites.

6. Coconut 🥥

Coconut and coconut products can be part of a balanced diet, and coconut has been investigated for antimicrobial properties. However, there is insufficient clinical evidence that eating coconut will eradicate intestinal worms.

7. Foods rich in fiber 🌾

Vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains, and other high-fiber foods support normal bowel function. They may help maintain digestive health, but fiber does not kill intestinal worms.

What Actually Treats Intestinal Worms?

Treatment depends on the specific parasite. Different infections—including pinworm, roundworm, hookworm, and tapeworm infections—can require different medications and treatment schedules.

If you have symptoms such as persistent abdominal discomfort, unexplained weight loss, diarrhea, anemia, or visible worms/segments in your stool, speak with a healthcare professional. They can determine whether testing is necessary and recommend appropriate treatment.

Bottom line

Garlic, pumpkin seeds, papaya, and other foods can be nutritious additions to your diet, but there is no scientifically established list of foods that reliably “kills intestinal worms” in humans. Food should support your health—not replace proven antiparasitic treatment.
