11 Ways to Get Your Peace Lily to Bloom

Peace lilies can be reluctant to flower indoors, but a few simple changes can make a big difference.

  1. Give it bright, indirect light. Low light is one of the most common reasons a peace lily produces leaves but few flowers.
  2. Avoid harsh direct sun. Strong afternoon sunlight can scorch the leaves.
  3. Water when needed, not on a fixed schedule. Water when the upper layer of soil has begun to dry, then allow excess water to drain.
  4. Use a pot with drainage holes. Constantly waterlogged soil can damage the roots.
  5. Don’t let it sit in water. Empty excess water from the saucer after watering.
  6. Feed lightly during active growth. A balanced houseplant fertilizer can provide nutrients needed for growth and flowering. Follow the product directions rather than overfertilizing.
  7. Keep temperatures comfortable. Peace lilies generally prefer warm indoor conditions and dislike cold drafts.
  8. Increase humidity if the air is very dry. A humidifier can help, particularly in dry indoor environments.
  9. Repot only when necessary. Peace lilies don’t need frequent repotting, and a slightly snug pot can be perfectly fine.
  10. Remove dead flowers and damaged leaves. This keeps the plant looking healthy and redirects energy toward new growth.
  11. Be patient. A healthy plant may still flower seasonally rather than continuously. Mature plants exposed to suitable light are more likely to bloom.

🌸 One important myth

Don’t add coffee grounds, sugar, banana peels or other kitchen ingredients to the soil simply because an online recipe claims they’ll force flowering. They aren’t a reliable substitute for appropriate light, watering and balanced nutrition.
