Vicks VapoRub has a lot of viral “secret uses,” but they’re not all supported by good evidence. Its established purpose is much narrower.
Uses with reasonable support

Cough relief: Applying it to the chest and throat as directed can provide temporary relief from cough associated with a cold.

Minor muscle and joint aches: It can provide temporary soothing relief when rubbed onto affected areas.

Cold comfort: Menthol can make breathing feel more open, although it doesn’t actually clear mucus or unblock the airways.
Viral uses to be skeptical about
You may see claims that VapoRub can cure toenail fungus, warts, scars, stretch marks, headaches, insect bites, or cuts. Some have limited evidence or anecdotal support, but they aren’t established uses and shouldn’t replace appropriate treatment.
Important precautions
Don’t apply it inside your nose or mouth, near the eyes, or to broken skin, and don’t swallow it. Products containing camphor can be dangerous if ingested, particularly by children. Follow the age limits and directions on your specific product.
Bottom line: VapoRub can be useful for its intended purposes, but there isn’t a scientifically established list of dozens of “miracle” uses.
