Having hip pain doesn’t point to just one single issue—it is a common symptom that can stem from a wide variety of causes, ranging from simple muscle strain to joint wear and tear.

Common reasons why you might experience hip pain include:

* **Muscle Strain or Tendinitis:** Overuse, sudden increases in physical activity, or running can strain the muscles, tendons, and soft tissues surrounding the hip joint (such as the hip flexors or gluteal muscles).
* **Bursitis:** Inflammation of the bursa—the fluid-filled sacs that cushion the bones, tendons, and muscles near the hip joint—is a very common cause of sharp or aching pain on the outside of the hip.
* **Osteoarthritis:** Wear and tear of the cartilage inside the hip joint over time can lead to stiffness, a reduced range of motion, and a dull, aching pain in the groin or front of the thigh.
* **Hip Impingement (FAI):** Structural irregularities in the bones of the hip joint can cause them to rub against each other during movement, leading to friction and pain.
* **Referred Pain:** Sometimes, issues in the lower spine (such as a pinched nerve or sciatica) or problems in the sacroiliac joint can send pain signals that feel like they are coming directly from the hip.

Are you or someone you know experiencing hip pain right now? Knowing if it happens during certain activities, like walking or sitting, can help narrow down what might be going on.
