If this is a viral post, the “do this in 10 seconds” claim is misleading. There is no proven maneuver, cough, drink, or breathing technique that can stop a heart attack at home.
If you suspect a heart attack:
- Call your local emergency service immediately.
- Stop exerting yourself and sit or lie down comfortably.
- If you have prescribed nitroglycerin, use it exactly as directed.
- Follow the emergency operator’s advice about aspirin; it isn’t appropriate for everyone.
- If the person becomes unresponsive and isn’t breathing normally, start CPR and use an AED if available.
Possible symptoms include chest pressure/pain, shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, or pain spreading to the arm, back, neck, or jaw.
Don’t spend those first seconds attempting a viral “heart attack trick.” Getting emergency medical help as quickly as possible is what can save a life.
