Bug found in my friends hair. What is it?

It could be head lice, but I can’t identify a bug reliably without seeing it.

If you upload a clear, close-up photo of the insect (ideally alongside something for scale), I can help narrow it down. A photo of the hair/scalp showing where you found it would also help.

If it is head lice, look for:

  • Small, crawling insects roughly the size of a sesame seed.
  • Nits (eggs) firmly attached to individual hairs, close to the scalp.
  • Itching, particularly around the ears and back of the neck.

Don’t use insecticides or household chemicals on the scalp based solely on a guess.
