7 Ways to Use Vaseline for Healthier-Looking Skin
Vaseline is petroleum jelly, an occlusive moisturizer. It doesn’t actually erase wrinkles, but it can reduce dryness and make fine lines temporarily look less noticeable by keeping moisture in the skin.
Seal in moisturizer — Apply a very thin layer over your regular moisturizer, especially on dry areas.
Overnight dry-skin treatment — A small amount on dry cheeks or other areas can reduce moisture loss while you sleep.
Smooth dry lips — Apply a thin layer to help prevent moisture loss and chapping.
Protect around the nose — Useful when frequent nose-blowing leaves the surrounding skin irritated.
Soften rough hands — Apply after washing and drying your hands, particularly before bed.
Help protect dry patches — It can form a protective barrier over irritated, non-broken skin.
After bathing — Applying a thin layer while skin is still slightly damp can help lock in moisture.
What Vaseline can’t do
Vaseline doesn’t stimulate collagen or remove wrinkles, and it isn’t a sunscreen. For actual wrinkle prevention, daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and a moisturizer have much stronger evidence.
If you have acne-prone skin, eczema, or irritated/broken skin, how you use it matters, so avoid applying it indiscriminately over the entire face.
