If You Always Sleep on Your Right Side, Should You Worry?

For most healthy adults, no. Sleeping on your right side is generally safe, and there is no medical requirement to sleep on the left simply because you prefer the right. The best position is usually the one that lets you sleep comfortably without pain or other symptoms.

There are, however, a few situations where your sleeping position can matter:

Acid reflux: Right-side sleeping can worsen nighttime reflux for some people. Sleeping on the left side is more likely to reduce reflux symptoms.

Pregnancy: Side sleeping is generally recommended later in pregnancy. The left side is often preferred, but sleeping on the right side is also considered acceptable if it’s more comfortable.
