One Glass Before Bed? Here’s Why Some People Use It for Digestion

“One glass before bed” for digestion: what does the evidence say?

If you’re referring to the common viral claim about drinking apple cider vinegar (ACV) before bed, there’s no strong evidence that one glass reliably “fixes digestion,” detoxes the body, or prevents digestive disease.

What ACV may—and may not—do
Blood sugar: Small studies suggest vinegar consumed with a meal may modestly reduce the post-meal blood-glucose response. This isn’t the same as treating diabetes.
Digestion: There isn’t convincing clinical evidence that drinking ACV before bed improves digestion or increases stomach acid enough to provide a meaningful health benefit.
Heartburn/reflux: ACV is acidic and can actually make reflux or heartburn worse in some people.
Teeth and throat: Undiluted vinegar can irritate the throat and contribute to tooth-enamel erosion.
If you choose to drink it

Don’t drink concentrated vinegar straight. Dilute it well, avoid sipping it over a long period, and stop if it causes burning or reflux. People taking medications—particularly medicines affecting blood sugar or potassium—should check with a healthcare professional before using substantial amounts regularly.

Bottom line: There is no proven bedtime “one-glass” digestive remedy. If you tell me what the glass contains (ACV, lemon water, milk, another ingredient, etc.), I can assess that specific claim.
