🍳 Nana’s Easy Trick for Cleaning Nasty Baking Pans Without Scrubbing
For baked-on grease and food, the easiest approach is usually soaking with hot water and dish soap, rather than aggressive scrubbing.
🧼 The simple method
- Put the baking pan in a sink or basin.
- Add hot water until the stuck-on areas are covered.
- Add a generous squeeze of dishwashing liquid.
- Let it soak for 30–60 minutes; very stubborn buildup may need longer.
- Empty the water and wipe the softened residue away with a non-abrasive sponge or cloth.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry.
🥄 For really stubborn baked-on residue
Make a paste from baking soda and a little water, spread it over the residue and let it sit for several hours or overnight. Then wipe and rinse.
⚠️ Protect the pan
- Don’t use steel wool or harsh abrasives on nonstick or coated pans.
- Don’t mix cleaning products, especially bleach with ammonia, vinegar, or other cleaners.
- For aluminum pans, avoid prolonged exposure to highly alkaline cleaners because they can discolor or damage the surface.
Bottom line: There isn’t a magic ingredient that makes every pan clean instantly, but hot water + dish soap + soaking can loosen surprisingly stubborn buildup with very little effort.
