If your kidneys are in danger, your body may show these 10 signs
Your kidneys filter waste from your blood, balance fluids and electrolytes, help regulate blood pressure, and support red blood cell production.
The important thing to know is that early kidney disease often causes no noticeable symptoms. You can have reduced kidney function even when you feel completely fine. Blood and urine tests are the most reliable ways to detect many kidney problems.
10 warning signs to watch for
Excessive foam that repeatedly appears may indicate protein leaking into the urine. Occasional bubbles can be normal.
Damaged kidneys may retain excess salt and fluid, causing swelling.
Kidney disease can contribute to anemia and the buildup of waste products, leaving you unusually tired.
Needing to urinate more often at night or producing much less urine than usual can be a warning sign.
Pink, red, or cola-colored urine may indicate blood. Kidney stones, infections, and other conditions can also cause this, so get it checked promptly.
Persistent morning puffiness can sometimes occur when protein leaks into the urine.
These symptoms can develop as kidney function declines, although many digestive conditions can cause them.
Advanced kidney disease can disrupt the balance of minerals and waste products in the body.
Sleep difficulties and mental fog can occur in more advanced disease, but they are not specific to kidney problems.
Electrolyte and mineral imbalances associated with impaired kidney function may contribute to cramps.

How to check whether your kidneys are healthy
If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, or a family history of kidney failure, ask your clinician about kidney screening. Two important tests are:
-
Blood test: Creatinine and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), which assess kidney function.
-
Urine test: Urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR), which detects protein that may indicate kidney damage.NIDDK+1
When to seek urgent medical care
Seek urgent help if you produce little or no urine, develop severe shortness of breath, experience confusion, or have rapidly worsening swelling. Blood in the urine also needs prompt medical assessment.
Remember: Having one of these signs does not automatically mean your kidneys are failing, and having no symptoms does not guarantee that they are healthy.
