How to Make Your Jewelry Shine Again: A Simple Cleaning Method

Here’s a simple, generally safe method for solid gold and many gold-plated pieces. The right method depends on the jewelry material.

✨ Simple jewelry-cleaning method

  1. Mix warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap.

  2. Soak the jewelry for about 5–10 minutes.

  3. Gently brush it with a very soft toothbrush, especially around settings and crevices.

  4. Rinse thoroughly in clean, lukewarm water. For small pieces, use a bowl rather than rinsing over an open drain.

  5. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

  6. Let it dry completely before storing it.

⚠️ Avoid this on jewelry

Don’t use toothpaste, baking soda, bleach, or abrasive powders as a general-purpose cleaner. They can scratch metal or damage plating.

Be especially careful with pearls, opals, turquoise, emeralds, and other porous or delicate gemstones—don’t soak them unless you know the material can tolerate it.

If you tell me whether your jewelry is gold, silver, gold-plated, diamond, pearl, or another gemstone, I can give you the safest cleaning method for that specific type.
