A Simple Trick to Clean Your Oven Door Glass: Sparkling Results Without Harsh Chemicals

Greasy oven-door glass can look impossible to clean, but you don’t necessarily need strong chemical cleaners. A simple combination of baking soda, dish soap, and water can help loosen baked-on grease and food residue.

What you’ll need

  • ½ cup baking soda

  • A small amount of dish soap

  • Warm water

  • Soft sponge or microfiber cloth

  • A non-scratch scraper or old plastic card, if needed

Step-by-step method

  1. Let the oven cool completely.
Never clean hot oven glass with water or cleaning solutions.

  2. Make a paste.
Mix baking soda with a little dish soap and enough warm water to create a thick, spreadable paste.

  3. Apply it to the glass.
Spread a thin layer over the dirty areas. Avoid getting the mixture into vents, openings, or between the glass panels.

  4. Let it sit.
Leave the paste for about 15–30 minutes so it can soften grease and stuck-on residue.

  5. Wipe gently.
Use a damp, non-abrasive sponge or microfiber cloth. For stubborn spots, gently use a plastic scraper.

  6. Rinse thoroughly.
Wipe the glass several times with clean water to remove all residue, then dry it with a microfiber cloth.

For a streak-free finish

A final wipe with a clean, slightly damp microfiber cloth followed by a dry one can leave the glass noticeably clearer.

Avoid steel wool, abrasive powders, harsh scrapers, and aggressive chemicals unless your oven manufacturer specifically recommends them. Also check the owner’s manual before removing the oven door or attempting to clean between its glass panels, as door designs vary.

The result: less grease, fewer streaks, and a cleaner-looking oven door without relying on harsh cleaners.
