If you’re referring to a health headline, “3 signs that prove your liver is dying inside” is misleading. There aren’t three symptoms that can reliably prove liver failure, and serious liver disease can sometimes have few symptoms until it is advanced.
Three warning signs that deserve medical attention
Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice): This can occur when the liver cannot properly process bilirubin.
Abdominal swelling: Fluid can accumulate in the abdomen (ascites) in advanced liver disease.
Confusion or unusual sleepiness: Severe liver dysfunction can cause hepatic encephalopathy, in which toxins affect brain function.
Other concerning symptoms include very dark urine, unusually pale stools, easy bruising or bleeding, severe fatigue, nausea, and loss of appetite.
If someone develops new confusion, vomiting blood, black/tarry stools, severe jaundice, or rapidly increasing abdominal swelling, they need urgent medical evaluation.
Also, these symptoms don’t necessarily mean the liver is “dying”—they can have other causes. Liver function is assessed with a medical history, examination, blood tests, and sometimes imaging rather than symptoms alone.
